CHINA, Dragon Seal

What better opportunity to indulge in a bottle of the Dragon Seal wine from the Hebei Province of Beijing. Having started out life with humble beginnings when a French friar converted a graveyard into a wine cave in 1920, the Church officially registered the “La Shangyi Cave de Pékin” winery for selling red and white wine to the masses in 1946. Having been acquired by the State over the years, the very first bottle of Dragon Seal wine was launched in 1988 – the Year of the Dragon!

CHINA, Dragon’s Hollow Unoaked Chardonnay

If you’d  prefer a white tipple, why not try a wonderful Unoaked Chardonnay from Dragon’s Hollow.

Dragon’s Hollow wines are a popular choice in many New York establishments and in particular the Mandarin Oriental on Lexington and The Essex House Hotel in Central Park South. As Chardonnay is the most obvious white grape variety that will benefit from wine aeration, you’d best make sure to have your Wine Weaver handy.

Another great alternative Chinese wine is the Grand Dragon Cabernet Sauvignon from Shandong.

SOUTH AFRICA, Happy Dragon Pinotage/Shiraz

Another Dragon wine is the Happy Dragon Pinotage from the Cloof Estate, – apparently “the wine that tamed the thirst of a goat-eating dragon”! A red wine reminiscent of the easy-going, spicy wines of the Mediterranean, this Pinotage/Shiraz blend provides generous fruit and tannins making this a wine perfect for enjoying with your WineWeaver.

AUSTRALIA, Year of the Dragon, Golden Harvest,  Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz

Alternatively, add a wonderful bottle of Golden Harvest’s Cabernet Sauvignon to your dragon wine collection and admire their super premium, gold print plated bottle or stick to a bottle of their Shiraz – a dense and dark vibrant ruby in colour with black fruit aromas and over notes of licorice – in a slighty less extravagant, but none the less dragon inspired bottle!

FRANCE, Château Beychevelle

Another wine, this time from Bordeaux that could prove to be a popular either as a Chinese New Year gift or as a Dragon inspired celebration wine is Château Beychevelle as the label depicts a ship that resembles a Dragon Boat.
