Barbecues and the Great outdoors – Summer BBQ Ideas
What could be better than a summer barbecue – enjoying the great outdoors with loved ones whilst partaking in delicious freshly cooked food and thirst-quenching beverages? But how to picnic or BBQ in style?
For many of us, the summer has been a long time coming, having spent much of this past long winter and spring inside. Many will have daydreamed, wishing for long, lazy summer days spent with family and friends, with thoughts of camping, picnics, having campfires on the beach and of course enjoying delicious summer barbecues. Nothing says summer more than the smell of the barbecue.
Now that summer has officially started, the count down to Independence Day has also begun, with July 4th celebrations helping to mark the fact that the summer season is in full swing. Invariably the entertaining of friends and family will have naturally moved outside, as the weather warms up and the days get longer, and many will no doubt be planning on celebrating July 4th with either a barbecue at home or a picnic whilst watching the local fireworks and patriotic parades.
As the temperature heats up during the summer, appetites for heavier recipes tend to shrink, so when planning a summertime event or BBQ, make sure to include some favorite seasonal dishes.
Summer BBQ Ideas for what to serve:
Grilled kebabs, such as garlic shrimp and pineapple or baked squash with onions and baby tomatoes, will go perfectly with a crisp, cool white wine and will make a perfect start to the event. Take your pick of white wines from Oregon, Washington, New York or California especially when celebrating Indpendence Day. Add a few favorite nachos and a variety of dips try avocado and sweet corn with a hint of chillies or blue cheese dip with a light red wine while the meat cooks.
For the main BBQ dishes try homemade burgers with herbs or ribs, swordfish or pulled pork. Meats bursting with flavor and delicious with potato salad, tomato and onion salad, or strawberry and cucumber salad with balsamic vinegar dressing.
