Queens Diamond Jubilee London 2012 - 60 years reign

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in London 2012

On 2nd June (Saturday), The Queen will attend the Epsom Derby. The Big Jubilee Lunch and the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant will follow, taking place on Sunday 3rd June. On the Monday (4th June) a BBC Concert will be held at Buckingham Palace and a network of beacons will be lit in celebration throughout the UK and the rest of the Commonwealth. Finally, on Tuesday 5 June a Service of Thanksgiving will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral, followed by a formal Royal Carriage Procession through London.

Jubilee Family Festival at Hyde Park

Take full advantage of the long bank holiday weekend by heading to the Jubilee Family Festival at Hyde Park, where children and adults alike can enjoy two days of live entertainment, dancing and parades.

For many in attendance, the highlight of the Jubilee Family Festival at Hyde Park is sure to be the 70 minute Disney concert at the end of each day. Featuring a host of hugely popular Disney characters and songs, the show has been specially produced to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. So you can be sure to expect spectacular and unique show to top off the bank holiday celebrations.

BBC Concert at Buckingham Palace: Diamond Jubilee celebration

Set to be one of the highlights of the long four day Jubilee bank holiday is the BBC Concert at Buckingham Palace. To mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the 60th anniversary of her coronation, Dame Shirley Bassey, Sir Elton John and Sir Paul McCartney are just some of the music stars taking to the stage for the BBC concert at Buckingham Palace. Taking place close to the Queen Victoria Memorial and in front of the iconic Buckingham Palace, the one-off BBC concert is sure to be a memorable affair where you can be sure to find plenty of Union Jack Flags waving in the crowd along with enthusiastic cheersfor both the star performances and celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.

Thames River Pageant:

Where: River Thames|  When: 03 June 2012  |

Sunday 3rd June will see sees over a thousand vessels take to the Thames in a spectacular river parade to celebrate the 60th year reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The Thames Diamond Jubilee River Pageant is just one of the special events taking place over the long bank holiday weekend and is free to attend – just make sure you grab a good viewing spot early as it’s sure to be popuar!

Her Majesty The Queen will be taking part in the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant with the procession starts at 2pm and estimated to finish at 6pm, with all manner of vessels taking part – including music barges, rowing boats and even a floating belfry with bells-a-chiming. The pageant will start at Battersea Bridge and will finish some seven and a half miles downriver at Tower Bridge.

The Thames River Pageant is free to watch from the banks of the river, with approximately fifty big screens being placed along the route of the Thames Diamond Jubilee River Pageant so that the assembled crowds don’t miss out on any of the action.  Get out your Union Jack flags and join in the celebrations!

Jubilee Gun Salute at London Bridge

Where: London Bridge  | When: 03 June 2012

Just past London Bridge, a traditional gun salute will take place as the vessels pass through an avenue of sail created by traditional Thames sailing boats, naval vessels, oyster smacks and other ships. As a fitting finale to the Thames Diamond Jubilee River Pageant, the jubilee gun salute at London Bridge will see Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II be given a traditional military greeting as she leads over a thousand vessels along the Thames.

The Queen’s vessel and all of the other boats in the pageant will then continue downriver to Tower Bridge.

The jubilee gun salute at London Bridge takes place on Sunday 3rd June 2012 so if you’re planning on attending be sure to get up early to grab a good spot to watch from the banks of the river.

The Big Jubilee Lunch

As announced by Buckingham Palace The Big Jubilee Lunch will be a part of the main programme of events over the central weekend of Diamond Jubilee celebrations in June 2012. The fourth annual Big Lunch will fall on the same weekend as the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. So anyone who would like to celebrate and commemorate the Queen’s 60 year reign can do so by holding a Big Jubilee Lunch!

Celebrated on the first Saturday in June, a Big ‘Jubilee’ Lunch, can be anything from a few neighbours getting together in the garden or on the street, to a full blown party with food, music and decoration that quite literally stops the traffic.
